Massage.

It is believed that massage is one of the oldest forms of medical care. It dates back as far as the pharaohs of ancient Egypt. Its vital role in healthcare was universal.  In 2700 BC, a Chinese book of internal medicine recommended “the massage of skin and flesh.” More than 2000 years later, Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, wrote that “the physician must be acquainted with many things and assuredly with rubbing” (the ancient Greek word for massage).

Today, the term massage therapy is used to describe the manipulation of soft tissue, muscles, skin and/or tendons, by fingertips, hands, fists, elbows and even feet. Almost a quarter of all Americans adults have received at least one massage in the past twelve months. And the number continues to grow as more and more people discover the benefits of massage, for relaxation, rehabilitation and rejuvenation and as the first step to healing.

Massage vs Bodywork.

We live in a fast-paced world with no time for long respites & relaxation. Massage offers temporary & compact rejuvenation for the mind & body and is the first step to healing. With body work, however, a larger step is possible. Stress-related ailments, which are so common in our society, can be steadily repressed & reduced. While bodywork includes all forms of massage techniques, it also includes many other types of touch therapies. These are often Oriental techniques, such as Shiatsu or Acupressure. They aim at balancing the body, mind, energy and spirit.

Everyone is responsible for themselves & cannot hand this responsibility over to a professional, no matter of which occupation. Nevertheless, with body work, a certain self-awareness will help a person find their own individual way to self-fulfillment and I function as the medium in this pursuit.  Techniques that include relaxation, stress relief, muscle stretching & joint movement will not only relax, but help you to consciously, as well as subconsciously, counteract conditions such as depression, anxiety & sleep-disorder or chronic muscle pain.

For those who wish to take massage past the first step of relaxation and use it as a means of healing, please contact me and visit the section on my Kinesthetic Body Awareness Programm.
